The 2010 Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube has been sold in Japan for the last 10 years, but is only now being launched in USA as a 2010 model. Sales kick off in early ‘09; about seven years after Toyota introduced the equally boxy Scion xB. Happily for Nissan--and maybe for you, too--this funky, frugal subcompact looks like just the thing to help Americans cope with $4 gas and other new economic miseries. A pure battery-power version is expected early next decade as part of Nissan’s new Green Program 2010. It was recently previewed by the Denki Cube concept (Denki means “electric” in Japanese).Like the xB, the 2010 Nissan Cube is a tall, square-cut, 4-door, five-passenger wagon based on a small mainstream front-wheel-drive hatchback (in this case Nissan’s March/Micra minicar, which has never been sold in the U.S.).
The Cube, however, actually predates (and allegedly inspired) the Scion’s original Toyota bB parent. The Cube coming stateside is somewhat smaller than the newly enlarged 2008 xB. It’s basically the redesigned 2002 Japan-market Cube with trim and equipment alterations to suit North American driving conditions and buyer tastes. In its early years, the Cube was a gotta-have ride for young Japanese fashionistas. Though no longer considered so trendy a decade on, it’s bound to seem like a way-cool novelty here in the States. But the 2010 Nissan Cube should appeal to anyone looking for good fuel thrift and a city-friendly package with surprising interior space. The home-market Cube offers two-row accommodations for six via a front bench seat and steering-column shift lever, but the U.S. version will probably have two front seats with a floor shift in between. There’s also a seven-passenger version, called the Cube3 or “Cubic,” with an extra 6.9 inches of wheelbase making room for a small 3rd-row seat and even more maximum load space. No word on whether that model is coming here too, but we won’t be surprised if it does. In fact, it might be the only one we get, as the wheelbase for the Denki Cube concept was stretched 9.4 inches from the regular model’s, though that was partly to accommodate the bulky batteries of its all-electric drive. However long it is, the U.S.-market 2010 Nissan Cube is generally expected to carry a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine instead of the 1.4-liter unit used overseas.

James Bond's 2003 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish

This 2003 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is the same model used in the James Bond movie Die Another Day. Harking back to the classic Aston DB5 used in Goldfinger, the movie version of the Vanquish had all the requesite Bond modifications, such as a pair of machine guns that come up through the bonnet vents, five heat-seeking missiles and a brace of shot guns that operate from the front radiator grille. Although the street version is a bit less flamboyant, it still has a 48-valve V12 engine with a top speed of 190 mph.

World's first swimming car

Three decades ago James Bond (then enacted by British star Roger Moore) wowed the world with a car that could 'fly' under water in the movie The Spy Who Loved Me. Only, it was animation and not an actual scene.

But Frank M Rinderknecht, the 52-year-old automobile visionary and boss of Swiss automaker Rinspeed, has turned a dream into reality with his 'sQuba.'

The Wonder Car - 2008 Ferrari F430 Spider

The Ferrari F430 Spider is an exotic convertible with top-shelf performance, stunning styling and a price tag that encourages double-takes. It is the soft-top version of the F430 Coupe.
Like many exotic sports cars, the Ferrari F430 Spider is as much a rolling work of automotive art as it is a high-performance car. As with many Ferraris over the years, the car’s seductively aerodynamic design comes courtesy of the noted Italian design house Pininfarina. A compact, power-operated fabric roof lowers or raises at the push of a button.
The Ferrari F430 Spider offers a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. A Formula One racing-derived, six-speed automatic gearbox with manual-shift capability is optional. Operated via steering wheel-mounted paddles, Ferrari claims this transmission cuts shifting times down to just 150 milliseconds to maximize the car’s blazing acceleration.
As expected for a $200,000-plus sports car, the Ferrari F430 Spider delivers race car-like driving dynamics. It rides on a lightweight aluminum space frame and electronically controlled Skyhook suspension. The F430 Spider’s handling is further enhanced by Ferrari’s E-Diff system, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential originally developed for racing. It optimizes traction based on a variety of factors, including the steering angle and lateral acceleration.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

Dashboard of the car

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe has a lightweight, but highly rigid all-aluminum spaceframe chassis. Its classic looks are due in part to a long hood, large-diameter wheels, and short front and long rear overhangs. Especially striking is its brushed steel hood and teak decking for the rear hood cover. Power is from a V12 engine, delivering 0-to-60 mile per hour acceleration of 5.7 seconds.

Driver-selectable ride-height adjustment insures plenty of clearance even on poorly surfaced roads.

Designing the future cars

The world over carmakers spend big bucks to establish their brands as leaders in the race toward greater fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Yet many of the eco-friendly and high-tech innovations in our vehicles begin in the research and development departments of large auto suppliers—the companies that supply components and systems to automobile manufacturers.
One such company, you might know Continental Automotive Systems as a maker of tires, but you probably don't know its role in the development of next-generation hybrids, diesels, lithium batteries, stability control, and wireless connectivity technologies for automobiles.
Due to this companies efforts,we are going to see an explosion of improvements in efficiency in vehicles, including traditional technologies such as direct gasoline injection, turbochargers, double-clutch transmission technoligies and low-resistance tires.
Cars in 2030
In 2030, you'll have a lot more technologies like autonomously driven vehicle. This is a vehicle that drives itself. It's a Chevy Tahoe. It still had all the attributes of a full-size SUV, but it also had the capability of driving itself. This vehicle actually had its own eyes and ears and senses to be able to navigate an urban setting with other cars on the road and be able to do that in a very safe and efficient way.
It's a demonstration to bring all three emerging technologies together: safety, sustainability, and connectivity. You're going to see developments on sustainability go concurrent with a continued focus on safety, which has been the focus of the industry in the last decade or so. Technologies like electronic stability control.lane detection warning, blind-spot detection, and rear-end collision avoidance. You'll see these technologies in the next couple of years, just exploding in the industry. That will complement everything we are doing on the power train side and from a sustainability standpoint.
Just in the past few years, advances in camera technology, in the image-processing software that's available to know the difference between a line in the road and a Coca-Cola can sitting in front of the car. The radar system might pick it up as an obstacle, but the camera knows, with the fusion of the sensors together, that it's a Coca-Cola can. You certainly wouldn't want the full brake applied. These are the things that are advancing very quickly now, to be able to bring in more safety and sustainability into the car.

Ferrari also makes watches

The Ferrari Jumbo has a titanium case and Swiss-made ETA quartz chrono movement. It is particularly suitable to sporting and leisure use, however, as it offers a choice of stopwatch and counter buttons.
At Ferrari, accurate time-keeping is main priority because even a 10th of a second can make all the difference out there on the track. That's why the Ferrari Jumbo takes its inspiration from the world of motor racing and the Scuderia Ferrari's activities. To underscore this link, the Ferrari Jumbo watch comes in a special rubber presentation case shaped to resemble an F1 tyre. This original touch, of course, makes the watch something of a collector's item too.It is priced around 292 euros (Exclusive of Vat)
