ZAP Electric Cars Zip Around San Francisco


Steve Schneider, CEO of Zero Air Pollution (ZAP), sits in the protoype of a ZAP L.U.V. (Light Utility Vehicle) electric car. ZAP recently unveiled the new ZAP L.U.V. electric car that can travel up to 240 miles at speeds of 70 m.p.h. They sell for between $9,000.00 and $17,000.

This photo is from several years ago and the posting is not accurate. This was never a drivable prototype. It was around 2002 that ZAP was in talks with a European company who said they could sell cars to ZAP. At the same time ZAP was testing a lithium battery that could propel these cars much farther than standard batteries. ZAP was able to sell about two dozen of the first car, but it was not a big seller (see Kurrent). Plus, a little thing called the smart car turned ZAP upside down.
